Sam Kongsamut, Ph.D., Co-founder, VP, Research & Development

Dr. Kongsamut has over 25 years of R&D experience in the life science industry, which includes providing consulting services to pharmaceutical clients, launching pharmaceutical ventures, mentoring/advising startups, and holding various roles in multinational pharmaceutical companies.  He is the Founder and President of Rudder Serendip LLC, serving clients at universities, foundations, and biotechnology companies. In that capacity, he has worked to grow life sciences entrepreneurship in the NJ/NY region, through the Institute for Life Science Entrepreneurship, ELAB NYC and Rutgers CTEC, and has been involved with two biotech ventures, one in an R&D role, and the other as co-founder and interim CEO.

Dr. Kongsamut’s corporate experience includes roles at Hoechst-Roussel Pharmaceuticals, Hoechst Marion Roussel, Aventis, and Sanofi, leading a variety of drug discovery and development projects covering a range of areas in neuroscience and age-related diseases, and helping to translate animal pharmacology to human pharmacology. He also applied his broad and deep R&D expertise at Sanofi in external innovation for identifying new assets for licensing or partnering.

Dr. Kongsamut obtained his PhD at the University of Chicago and had postdoctoral training at Cornell and Yale Universities. He is an Associate Fellow at Drew University’s RISE, an adjunct faculty member at Rutgers University New Jersey Medical School, and on the scientific review boards for foundations and universities.
